Teacher CV Example and Writing Guide

A teacher CV should show two things quickly: that you can manage a classroom, and that your students learn. Schools read many CVs, so a clear one-page layout with measurable results (pass rates, attendance, improved grades) stands out far more than a list of duties.

What to include in a teacher CV

  • Name the grade levels and subjects you have taught, and the class size you handled.
  • Add one number per job: pass rate, attendance, grade improvement or students taught.
  • List your teaching qualification (B.Ed, M.Ed, PGCE or similar) before older degrees.
  • Mention classroom technology you use, such as smart boards, Google Classroom or Zoom.
  • Include extra-curricular work such as clubs, sports, exam invigilation or school events.

Sample profile (copy the idea, not the words)

Caring and organised primary school teacher with 6 years of experience teaching English and Science to grades 3-5. Skilled in lesson planning, classroom management and parent communication, with a record of raising average class results through activity-based learning.

Skills to consider

Lesson planning, Classroom management, Child psychology basics, Assessment and grading, Parent communication, Microsoft Office.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Writing only "taught students" without a subject, grade or result
  • Using a photo that is not clear and formal (if you add a photo at all)
  • Leaving gaps in dates without a short explanation

How to write a teacher CV step by step

  1. Start with your contact details and headline. Write your name, phone, e-mail and city, and a headline such as "Primary School Teacher".
  2. Write a two to three sentence profile. Say who you are, how many years of experience you have and one result you are proud of.
  3. List experience, newest first. For every job give the title, employer, dates and two to four bullet points that show results.
  4. Add education and certificates. Include degree, institute and year. Add licences or short courses that the job needs.
  5. Finish with skills and languages. Choose skills from the job advert that are really yours.
  6. Proofread and export as PDF. A PDF keeps your layout the same on every device.

Teacher CV: frequently asked questions

How long should a teacher CV be?

One page is enough for fresh graduates and early-career teachers. Experienced teachers can use two pages, as long as the most recent roles come first.

Should I put a photo on a teacher CV?

It depends on the school and country. Many private schools in Pakistan and the Gulf still expect a photo, while schools in the UK or US usually do not. Follow the job advert.

What should a fresher teacher write if there is no experience?

Write about teaching practice, internships, tutoring, volunteering and the subjects you are qualified to teach. Put education and teaching practice near the top.
